My name is Geoff Fulmer and I have been a studying since 1991. There were a few reasons why I joined Sifu’s then school ,Seattle Wun Hop Kuen Do Academy (Kajukenbo) with Co-chief Instructor Guro Sherril Johnson. One reason was location it was right around the corner from where I lived, the other and more important other reason was that I had some personal struggles and thought martial arts would be a good outlet to help me.
After my first introductory lesson and was hooked. I thought "Oh yeah! I want to become a member of this school!" I will never forget talking to Sifu and Guro after my first encounter. I asked what the atmosphere was at the school trying to “look smart”. And the answer surprised me. They had said it was a family atmosphere. I wasn’t too sure about that at the time. As I trained with Sifu and Guro and as they started to trust me as a student and a person it was exactly that a family atmosphere.
I received my Apprentice Black Belt in 2002 and now hold the rank of 5th degree black belt. Achieving my Black Belt was one of the hardest and most rewarding achievements I have ever done. I look at the members of Seattle Wushu as more than my mentors and school members, but as close family.
