Beginnings: 

In 1990, Sifu Restita DeJesus opened her first commercial martial arts school, after 6 years of teaching in Seattle's Community Recreation Centers, originally offering Butokukan Karate. This first commercial school was orginally known as "Inner Concepts Martial Arts", which referred to Sifu Restita's approach to self expression, self improvement, a reflective approach to training, positive attitude, and the methodology of "form & concept" to "function & self defense applications".

From 1994 to 2015, the school moved locations through the West Seattle/White Center and Georgetown areas of Seattle. The school also went through several business name changes; Seattle Wun Hop Kuen Do Academy, Yin Yang Arts Center, then finally Seattle Wushu Center. In 2007 Sifu Restita chose the name "Seattle Wushu Center" as she added Chinese Wushu to her class offerings. She chose the Chinese word "Wushu" (which means "martial arts") because she had already been certified as a teacher in several martial systems and gained sufficient experience in other related activities (blowgun, bullwhip, sling, etc); offering all of these at the school. Upon the addition of Sifu Kathy Long's method of Kung Fu San Soo, Kickboxing and defensive tactics, the school began offering much more in terms of martial arts. 


Evolvement, Branding, Revival:
As the commercial school grew from 1994 to the present day, Sifu Restita kept the name "Seattle Wushu Center" to refer to the school as being a "house" for which several martial arts were taught, not just one art. Sifu Restita continued to learn and grow, finding that there is no "cookie cutter" way to make a school a success, as different personalities have different strengths. She found that what works for others in the world of busines, may not have worked with her personality.

Sifu Kathy Long, a very well known master in Kung Fu San Soo and world renowned 5 time World Kickboxing champion, trainer and movie actor, joined as additional Chief Instructor with her Kickboxing and Kung Fu San Soo classes in 2018. In 2024, even with both instructor's names being well known, it became apparent that Sifu Kat's and Sifu Restita's curriculums and experience would need a method of reference, to prevent confusion for students new to martial arts that did not know who they were in the martial arts community.

In 2024, Sifu Kat named her school curriculum "Beyond Limits Healing and Martial Arts" , offering Kung Fu San Soo, Kickboxing and Hypnotherapy. 

Also in 2024, Sifu Restita revived her first original brand, "Inner Concepts Martial Arts.  The brand represents Kajukenbo, Chen Tai Chi, Yang Tai Chi, Cacoy Doce Pares, Filipino martial arts, and Wushu. Extracurricular instruction in knife throwing, bullwhip cracking and blowgun target shooting are also available.

So, to sum it up, our"Venue" where which Sifu Restita's and Sifu Kat's classes are taught, is known as "Seattle Wushu Center". It is a "Hub" for the different subjects of study.  Whereas, the "Inner Concepts" and "Beyond Limits" brands, are in reference to each teacher's curriculums.
